When I changed the water for my flower vase, a marble escaped and fell into the sink disposal without my knowledge.
Later, when I ran the disposal, it made the most loud, frightening, cocophonic, diusconcordant noise that turned everybody’s heads. Sounded like I was trying to grind the disposal itself.
Carefully, I unplugged the unit, and shone a flashlight into the cavity. I saw a little marble tucked under one of the blades. How can a tiny little marble create such a ruckus?
Just like the times tables. Not knowing your times facts by 5th grade will make math feel hard, tedious, and sometimes painful. Fractions, Factors & Multiples, Word Problems, Measurement Conversions…
It’s a little marble that just needs to be resolved. Until then, it makes a rucus, and your child feels that math is horrible and difficult. Don’t let that happen to your child. There are really only 6 difficult times facts that bog most kids down. The rest are easy to figure out using number sense.
I’ll share with you how we teach times tables at our math tutoring center in a separate post.
